Sergei Yakovlevich Lemeshev (Russo Серге́й Я́ковлевич Ле́мешев; 1902 - 1977)
Lemeshev was born into a family of farmers and his father wanted him to become a shoemaker. In 1914, he left a parochial school and was sent to do an apprentice shoemaker in St. Petersburg. In 1917, he graduated in Tver, where he received vocal training. He began the first in a local workers' club and then moved to Moscow.
Between 1921 and 1925, he studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Nazari Raisky. In 1924, he sang in the study of the work of Konstantin Stanislavsky. From 1926 to 1931, she sang in the Sverdlovsk theaters, Harbin and Tbilisi.
In 1931 Lemeshev was invited to the Bolshoi Theater, debuted and eventually became the soloist of the theater. His lyric tenor from unusually soft and light timbre brought him almost immediately love and popularity among admirers of art opera. However, Lemeshev was a hard worker and he worked hard to develop all its operatic role. His vocal and artistic qualities, obvious to every listener, is the beauty of timbre, musicality, simplicity of vocal production, expression, diction very clear and the amazing pianissimo. The best years of his career were opera from 1931 to 1942. He was also an exceptional singer and a brilliant concert performer of traditional Russian folk songs. In 1938, he became the first artist to sing all 100 romances by Tchaikovsky in 5 concerts. The popular songs played on radio suggellarono further his stature as a truly national singer.
