(Augusta 1666 – 1742)

Couple of Battles
Oil on canvas, 47.5 x 58 cm
These works are attributed to Georghe Philipp Rugendas, Isaac Fischer’s student by whom he was initiated to the equestrian subjects. In Rome he took part of the painters of Schildersbent. He returned to his native city to follow some campaigns of the War of Succession acquiring imprint realistic and that use of the theatrical light characterizing his works.
This pair of paintings shows fight scene between knights in the foreground. The main figures standing out against the light are perfectly outlined in the posture and gestures. The use of light, focusing on particular groups rather than others, gives dynamism to certain actions, enfatizzandole.

The work is accompanied by the expertise of Giancarlo Sestieri
