Beschreibung

A ‘BLANC DE CHINE’ PORCELAIN LARGE STANDING GUANYIN

China, Qing dynasty, Kangxi period

The deity standing on a base simulating a rock, wearing a large dress and holding a child in her right hand, the head is separated from the sculpture and fits into the cavity on the neck, the hair arranged in an exuberant chignon.

65 x 16 x 12 cm

Provenance: Italian private collection.

Large Dehua porcelain sculptures such as this one were present in the palaces of the European nobility since the late 17th century, as exemplified by the similar sculpture in the Chinese Pavilion at Drottingholm, acquired by Queen Eleanora of Sweden at the end of the 17th century (A. Setterwall - S . Fogelmarck - B. Gillensvard, The Chinese Pavilion at Drottningholm, 1974, pl. 1).
Another similar pair can be found in the British royal collections (J. Ayers, Chinese and Japanese Works of Art in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen, London 2016, I, pp. 48-49, nn. 39 and 41).
