The work portrays the legendary musician Prince. The mugshot is taken from the actual archive image of the
police. The work is published in the magazine "GQ magazine" in August 2016. David Studwell uses traditional printing techniques and consolidated procedures, such as engraving and screen printing but with a modern approach to create dynamic and lively works of art.
He is influenced by popular culture, cult films and Pop Art in particular, which is evident in his vast and exciting range of prints. Studwell often uses photographs of characters from the sixties, icons, such as Marilyn Monroe, Steve McQueen and Elizabeth Taylor or more recent ones like Prince and David Bowie, evoking a strong sense of nostalgia. He borrows images of these timeless stars and reinvents them with unique style during the creative process, creating bold prints and intense colors.
