Beschreibung

An etruscan gold ring with engraved ovoid bezel. Volatile with attributes.
Bezel 19 x 13 mm; ring internal size 14 x 19 mm; gr. 4,80
The bird is facing left (a dove) and rests its legs on a ground line; in the field: a pomegranate and a crescent moon. Around double frame (pearl pattern, dashed pattern). The shape of the ovoid "almond-shaped" bezel is referable to a particular class of rings dating from the 5th to the 3rd century BC, with the representation executed in mold and subsequently cold-chiselled. The ring is part of a typical production of Etruria under the name "Gruppo Fortnum". Signs of wear and tear. For comparisons: Aa.Vv., L'Oro degli Etruschi, edited by M. Cristofani and M. Martelli, p. 318 n. 277; J. First half of the 4th century B.C.
