Beschreibung

Tea Set for two

Very rare tête à tête service consisting of a tray, milk jug, sugar bowl, teapot, two cups and saucers.
Very white and very thin "egg shell" porcelain decorated only with gold threads on the edges and handles, and entirely gold in the spout of the teapot; a concentric series of gold circles in the middle. An all gold monogram with the Gothic letters "IB", referring to a member of the Imoda family in Turin. The brand mark of the cross, a complex V, the numbers 8 and 100 in the tray are barely visible. They refer to the manufacture of Vinovo, heir to that of Vische, sponsored by Vittorio Amedeo III of Savoy in 1776 who lasted for a few decades, having been involved already in 1796 through a deep crisis after the death of the king and the French conquest. A coffee and broth service with the coat of arms of Vittorio Amedeo III is now in the Museo Civico d'Arte Antica in Turin decorated in gold and the Savoy coat of arms made between 1780 and 1785 for the palace offers the only possible comparison. It is interesting to note how the Imoda family made a smaller service, but inspired by this with the monogram JMR in 1856, perhaps on the occasion of the marriage between Marcellin Imoda and Rosalia Martinolo, now in the private collection of the Imoda family.
Vinovo, 1780 - 1785.
