Description

FRACHOYS Elout
(Haarlem, 1597 - 1661)

Still Life with Oysters
1633 ca.
Oil on panel transferred to canvas, 51 x 61 cm
The painting in question is attributed to Frachoys Elout, a Pieter Claesz’s follower. Belonging to the Golden Age, he was one out of those Dutch artists who dominated the market with his refined tables.
A white bread, the silver platter, oysters and the wine glasses, performed on the table full of food are elements alluding to a clientele of high social level.
Probably the painting was painted around 1633 as evidenced by a work documented and retained in Berlin in Buche collection depicting a Still life with seafood.

The work is accompanied by an expertise of Didier Bodart.
