Description

PIER FRANCESCO MOLA
(Coldrerio, 1612 – Rome, 1666)

Head of a man with an hat
1650-1655 ca.
Oil on canvas, 49 x 42.5 cm
The painting is the portrait of a bearded man, dressed in black with a burgundy hat, adorned with a golden buckle. The painting has a good state of preservation, especially after the last accurate and delicate restoration. The described results of the intervention allow to propose new considerations on the style of the paintin. The dismembered color of beard seems to descend from the Venetian painting of the early seventeenth century, still mindful of the vigorous coloring of Titian manner, but already possessed of a baroque emptiness.
The painting is attributed to Pier Francesco Mola, a Swiss painter, specialized in the portrait of the figure.

The work is accompanied by the expertise of Alexander Delpriori
