Description

PIETRO FRANCESCO GAROLI
(Torino, 1638 - 1716)

Deities with architectures caprice

Oil on canvas, 69.5 x 94.8 cm
Born in Turin, he studied perspective in his numerous study trips between Venice, Bologna and Florence. Once in Rome, beginning in 1672, he was admitted to the Accademia di San Luca, where he was named ""Perpetual master in perspective.""
His first works are dated between 1679 and 1682 in which the painter use to distribute the composition along diagonals, a similar layouts proposed by Augustine Mitelli, an artist admired by Garoli during his Emilian stay.
This picture seems to belong to this period, characterized by a very sharp pattern, by a vigorous and small figurines.
