South German turned ivory column - first half of the 17th Century


turned elephant ivory column (Loxodonta africana Blumenbach, 1797 or Elephas maximus Linnaeus, 1758), stepped cylindrical base with a thin shaft interspersed with multiple delicate leaf-form elements. Height 21 cm, base diameter 6.8 cm. Weight 68.5 gr. Item condition grading: **** good (minor losses, some surface wear commensurate with age & use). Accompanied by Ce.S.Ar. Centro Studi Archeometrici certificate of authenticity (pre-1947).
