A THANGKA WITH A CHANDA MAHAROSHANA MANDALA


Tibet or Nepal, 19th century


Painted in bright colorus on a thick canvas, depicting in the center the deity Chanda Maharoshana embracing her consort Mamaki, in the right hand a sword, around the eight achala, the frame of the circular medallion still with numerous characters, on the rest of the surface other deities of Tibetan Buddhism.

Chanda Maharoshana, also known as Krodharaja Achala ("the immovable"), is a meditation deity with wrathful appearance.
