A LARGE BRONZE TRIPOD BRAZIER


Korea, Goryeo dynasty, 13th-14th century


Circular section and wide flat rim, the container supported by three legs protruding from the jaws of a fantastic animal's head.

Provenance: ambassador Francesco Rausi.

The prototype for this bronze brazier is the huge and impressive item (113 cm diameter) dated to the 13th century and kept in The Korean Central History Museum in Pyeongyang (Treasures from The Korean Central History Museum, Pyeongyang, exhibition catalogue, Seoul 2006, pp. 98-99, n. 46). See also the brazier, very similar to this one also in size, in the National Museum of Korea (inv. Sinsu 15304).
