A 'BLUE AND WHITE' GLAZED PORCELAIN FACETED JAR


Korea, Joseon dynasty, 19th century


The mid section of the body shaped into eight faces and surmounted by rounded shoulders supporting a short cylindrical neck, the decoration consisting of wavy lines and hatches, clearly abstract in taste.

Provenance: ambassador Francesco Rausi.

Similar jars are preserved in the Musée national des arts asiatiques-Guimet in Paris (P. Cambon, L'Art coréen au musée Guimet, Paris 2001, n. 72) and in the LACMA in Los Angeles (inv. AC1998.113.2).
