Description

A VERY LARGE ENAMELLED PORCELAIN BALUSTER VASE
China, Qing dynasty, 19th century

Circular section, the finely painted polychrome decoration consisting on the body of a continuous scene with flowers of different species, birds and Xiwangmu - the Queen Mother of the West - sitting on a chariot and flanked by two assistants, one with a deer and the other with an elephant, towards the base and between the neck and shoulder a dense ground of stylized flowers with two polylobate reserves with auspicious objects, two dragons in relief on the shoulder, the handles shaped as two pairs of facing quadrupeds, an ancient collection inscription to the base.
