Description

A WHITE SLIP INLAID AND CÉLADON GLAZED CERAMIC VASE, MAEBYONG
Korea, Goryeo period, 12th-13th century

The vase with a circular section with the maximum width of the diameter near the shoulder which supports a short cylindrical neck with the mouth underlined by a border, the white slip inlaid decoration reserved on the céladon glaze consisting of cranes flying amidst stylized clouds.

24 x 13 cm

Provenance: Italian private collection, acquired in Korea in the 1960s.

A similar vase is in the Horim Museum in Seoul (Masterpieces from Horim Museum I, Seoul 1999, p. 48, n. 37).
