Description

A CÉLADON GLAZED CERAMIC EWER
Korea, Goryeo period style

The ewer modeled naturalistically as a bamboo shoot, the spout and the handle also emulate the shapes of a bamboo stem, the whole outer surface with a céladon glaze.

12 x 11 x 7 cm

Provenance: Italian private collection, acquired in Korea in the 1960s.

Ewer modeled with naturalistic forms are typical of the production of céladon glazed ceramics of the Goryeo period (see the similar item in the Ataka Collection: The Radiance of Jade and the Clarity of Water. Korean Ceramics from the Ataka Collection, exhibition catalogue (Chicago-San Francisco New York), New York 1991, p. 45, n. 9).
