Description

A HARDSTONES INLAID GOLD KRIS HANDLE
Bali, late 19th century

Modeled as a standing deity with a terrifying appearance, his right arm bent at the elbow and in the hand a vase with the amrita, the elixir of long life, the head surmounted by an exuberant crown, scattered cabochon stones of predominantly pink-purple tones arranged on the surface.

14 x 5 cm

Provenance: Italian private collection.

This handle is a fine example of a court style artifact. The deity depicted is Dewa Bayu, the god of wind and a symbol of prosperity.
