Description

Bowl with almost straight wall with lathe marks, high foot with broad, flat rest. VITERBO; 14th – 15th Century.Archaic majolica painted in copper flake green in relief and manganese. Interior: leafy wreath around the inside, four-part flower in the centre; exterior: unadorned. Ø 18 cm.; h. 7 cm.; Ø base 11 cm. Cond.: glueing and additions.
Bibl.: Various authors 1990, p. 188, fig. 3.The bowl uses a thick layer of green from copper to achieve a relief effect, a type of decoration often known as zaffera verde. As a decorative technique of great beauty, it is always highly valued.
