Description

Ovoid jug with a trilobate mouth and disc-shaped base. Siena; mid-15th century. Painted majolica in blue and yellow duotone. On the front, coat-of-arms in a circle sealed above by an emblem (?).
H. 12 cm; Ø base 6 cm. Cond.: excellent.The star-shaped rose in the centre of the decoration may be found in the coat-of-arms of the Monaldeschi della Cervara family, lords of various castles in the area between Tuscany and Latium. The circle containing it consists of stag's antlers, the family's chief heraldic device.
