Description

NEAPOLITAN FOUNDRY, XIX-XX CENTURY

"Farnese Bull" -based sculpture

Bronze. 32 x 24 x 25 cm with marble base; 29 x 20 x 20,5 cm without

This bronze composition is replicating the theme of the world-famous marble sculpture "Farnese Bull". Famous for being the largest statue recovered from antiquity, it has been preserved in Naples's Archeological Museum since 1788.

Unearthed in the Domus Aurea area in Rome in 1506, this massive statue was object of replicas and imitations from the very beginning, the greatest being Antonio Susini's version (1558-1624), now in the Galleria Borghese, Rome.

Our edition of the statue is part of this tradition and dates back to the end of XIX century.
