Description

Gold, very fine burin engraving under the translucent red enamel of the star, in the center engraved the tughra of Sultan 'Abd al-Hamid II inside a circle, outer frame enamelled in green, laurel wreath in rubies and emerald on a star with old rose cut diamonds, suspension hook in the shape of a red enamelled crescent and  star, exceptional workmanship of the early twentieth century, on the reverse star surrounded by laurel branches, original ribbon. very fine


Instituted in 1878, to be awarded upon ladies for exceptional merit in the help and care of wounded and victims of accidents and catastrophes,


Generally awarded also as a diplomatic reward to high ranking, foreign ladies
