Description

A POLYCHROME ENAMELED ‘BARAGON TUMED’ PORCELAIN SMALL BOWL

China, 19th century

The exterior decorated with figures, flowers, the shou character ("longevity") and the eight Buddhist emblems, two characters in the Mongolian language to the center of the base.

6 x 8,3 cm

Provenance: Italian private collection.

Made for the Mongolian market. The inscription 'Baragon tumed' to the center of the base is usually related to a service made for a grandaughet of Daoguang who married a Mongolian prince (S. Jenyns, Later Chinese Porcelain The Ch'ing Dynasty (1644-1912), London 1951 , plate CXII.1, for a bowl with a similar decoration in the British Museum in London).
