Description

GASPARD DUGHET (follower of)
(Rome, 1615-1675)

Landscape with towered city
End of 17th century

Oil on canvas, 72.5 x 92 cm
This artwork depicts a landscape glimpse on several planes, framed on the sides of the canvas by two trees that like an open curtain show the nature so loved by Gaspard Dughet, painter to whom the author of this painting takes inspiration from.
The canvas shows those elements that refer to Gaspard Dughet’s artworks. He was a Roman artist who developed a particular interest in landscape painting characterized, sometimes, by a compositional freedom and by the presence of trees - birch trees or similar – that take up the all height of the painting.
It was his bent to hunt to keep him in touch with nature analyzing the surrounding landscapes and then reproducing those he liked much more in painting.
