Ainos fu un’antica città sulla costa settentrionale dell’Egeo e fu dedita soprattutto al commercio, grazie al suo “doppio porto”. Divenne uno snodo importante sia via mare verso l’Ellesponto sia vero la Tracia grazie all’ampia vallata del fiume Ebro.
