Group of five Roman glass Knucklebones
1st century BC - 2nd century AD; lenght max cm 2; Knucklebones (made from sheep bones) was a popular game for all types of people, and playing the game was often depicted in paintings. Soldiers in the legions played it and spread the games wherever they went in the Empire; iridescent patina. Provenance: The Gotha Precious Collection: property of a Swiss Collector; with Oswald Burchard, Zurich, until 1983; formerly part of the M. Hess Collection (Hotel Jura, Basel).
