Two autograph letters, one is a long "Nota critica autobiografica" of thirteen pages, written and signed by the Italian writer. The other, in a postcard format, relates to an opinion he had asked for on the movie "Promessi Sposi" by Mario Camerini in 1941. In anticipation of the hundredth anniversary of the publication of the third and final draft of the novel, many hoped that the Italian film world would show its newfound production capabilities by bringing Manzoni's masterpiece to the screen. Ugo Ojetti was commissioned to write the adaptation.
