Description

PIETRO MASCAGNI
Livorno 1863 – Roma 1945

Thirteen long and important signed autograph letters accompanied by an envelope, dated between 1922 and 1929, addressed to Giuseppe Maria Viti, a versatile writer, director of silent movies, screenwriter, librettist and music critic for the Tirso. The arguments are varied and there is discussion of theatrical organization for the staging of Parisina: “… fallimento! Tutto è finito tra D’Annunzio e me. Non l’ho potuto vedere … La corsa di Parisina rende ossessionati …”. But we also talk about musical ideas and more generally cultural ones, the result of that lively thought that fed Mascagni and that pushed him to change ideas and orientations: “… allontanare la letteratura. Poesia si! Anzi: poesia e sola poesia! Ma via la stasi scenica: via i monologhi e le descrizioni, via gli episodi piantati come zeppe …”. Various formats.
