Description

PIETRO MASCAGNI
Livorno 1863 – Roma 1945

Two page unpublished autograph by the Livorno Maestro, the title of the work is "Litanie Lauretane", dated November 25th 1912. The term "litanie lauretane" (also called litanies of the Blessed Virgin Mary) refers to supplications that are sung at the end of the rosary. The name "lauretane" does not indicate the place of origin, but the place that made them famous: the Holy House of Loreto, where they were sung ever since the first half of the XVI century. One of the most important sacred compositions by Pietro Mascagni. Four pentagram pages, slight tears on the right margin.
