Steve McQueen, 2017

Serigraphy on paper, 50 x 70 cm

Limited and numbered 12/30 edition on the lower left.
Signed ‘DS’ by the artist in the lower right corner on the front.
Certificate of Authenticity signed by David Studwell. The work portrays legendary actor Steve McQueen.

A specimen was exhibited at the exhibition “The Dark Side of Fame” at the North & South Gallery in London from 6 to 12 November 2017. The photo senaletica is based on real archive images of the police. David Studwell uses traditional printing techniques and consolidated procedures, such as engraving and screen printing but with a modern approach to create dynamic and lively works of art.
He is influenced by popular culture, cult films and Pop Art in particular, which is evident in his vast and exciting range of prints. Studwell often uses photographs of characters from the sixties, icons like Marilyn Monroe, Steve McQueen and Elizabeth Taylor or more recent ones, like Prince and David Bowie, evoking a strong sense of nostalgia. He borrows images of these timeless stars and reinvents them with unique style during the creative process, creating bold prints and intense colors.
