Description

A rare roman garnet intaglio mounted on a iron ring. Working ant. The insect is turned on the left side and carrying farming tool on her back. Rare subject referring to a specific production of roman glyptics of insects representation (ant, grasshopper, locust) working as humans (plowing fields, fighting, musical performances). The stone, characterized with a luminous intense tone, is broken but remained fixed in its antique mounting (fragmentary) and still holding thanks to iron oxydations. Use of globular elements. 1st century B.C. - 1st century A.D.
