Description

AMLETO CATALDI
Naples, 1882 - Rome, 1930

The reader, 1908
Bronze sculpture, 42 x 14 x 28 cm
Signed engraved on the seat: A. Cataldi

Amleto Cataldi was born in Naples in 1882 and died in Rome at the age of 48.
His artistic production, as vast as it is short, covers a period of about twenty-five years.
His work "La Lettrice", presented at the 78th "Amatori e Cultori" in 1908, under the title of "Pensosa" and purchased by the Galleria d'Arte Moderna (GNAM) in Rome, is a particularly interesting and rare work: there are indeed only two copies.
The sculpture presented in the auction is the second example, made for a collector composer and lover of the Cataldis living in Buenos Aires.
The artist is present at the GNAM with five works, at the Municipal Gallery of Rome with three and also at the Quirinale, the Banca di Roma, the Campidoglio, the Senate and the University "La Sapienza".
Among the works realized we remember over sixty bronze and marble busts, the war memorial of Foggia, Crespi d'Adda, Lanciano, the Cemetery of San Severo in Puglia, the monument to the fallen of the Guardia di Finanza in Rome, four groups of athletes from the Olympic Village, the two Victories of the Vittorio Emanuele Bridge in Rome, and hundreds more works to be exhibited
