A SANCAI-GLAZED EARTHENWARE TRIPOD DISH
China, Ming dynasty

6,5 x 29 cm

Standing on three cabriole legs, the centre of the interior with a moulded decoration of a goose flying amidst flowers, the whole surface covered with a sancai glaze.

Provenance: ambassador Francesco Rausi.
Form and decoration of this dish are inspired by ceramic models of the Tang dynasty shaped on Central Asia metal prototypes (see He Li, Chinese Ceramics. The New Standard Guide, San Francisco 1996, n. 154).
