Description

ATTIC RED-FIGURE KYLIX FRAGMENT
Attributed to Onesimos, ca. 505 - 480 BC
length cm 12 x 11
Outstanding fragment of a big Kylix with both sides decoreted: on one side, a profiled head of a youg naked man, skewered by an arrow on the chest; on the other side, the detail of a battle scene, in which is visible a kneel down warrior, holding the shield in his left hand and the feet of soldiers, suggesting a whirly battle scene. Great execution of details on the anatomical elements such as hair and muscles, yielded with thin lines in light red.

PROVENANCE
The Gotha Precious Collection: property of a Swiss Collector; with Oswald Burchard, Zurich, until 1983; formerly part of the M. Hess
