MONUMENTAL ROMAN MARBLE PORTRAIT OF A MAN
Trajanic period, late 1st - early 2nd century AD
height cm 40
The head is over-size, a sign which could suggest that the subject was an important personage. The shape of the eyes, the mouth and the sharp-edged strands of hair bring to mind the official portraits of the Emperor Trajan.
Private collection, London, acquired 1960s - 1980s.
