Description

A roman burnt carnelian intaglio. Mars Gradivus.
14 x 25 x 6 mm
The god walks leftward, wearing helmet and sandals. With the right hand he holds a scepter which lays on his shoulder, while the left hand holds a spear and a weapons trophy. On the hips is tied a drapery. On the lower part: a shield. Ground line. Interesting and well-composed work, executed with deep and marked engraving lines. Bezel in generous dimensions. Burnt stone with attractive white compact tone.
2nd-3rd century AD.
