A roman red jasper intaglio mounted in a large ancient gilded bronze ring. Rural sacrifice scene.
Intaglio 13 x 17 mm; ring internal size 15 x 19 mm
A hunter wears a short tunic with a cloak, and grasps two ears of wheat in his right hand, a long stick with a curved end in his left hand; a prey (rabbit or hare) hangs on the stick. The figure faces left in front of a small temple above the rocks. Propitiatory scene of sacrifice for hunting and abundance of fruits. Chipping on the edges and in the field of stone, with cracks. Attractive bronze mounting with gold-platin in good condition. Intact.
3rd century AD.
