A roman chalcedony intaglio. Mercure with attributes.
9 x 12 x 4 mm
The god is seated on rocks, wearing a coat and the winged cloak (petase). The character holds : with the right hand a little bag with coins with a cock on top; with the left hand the caduceus and a drapery. At his feet, a goat. Allegorical and auspicious representation for trade. Intaglio well-composed and executed with well-marked incisions. Attractive tone and luminosity of the stone.
2nd century AD.
