Description

A large variegated agate intaglio. Two erotes faced with palm branch.
37 x 50 x 2 mm
Allegorical scene referring to the contest of victory: two erotes (or winged geniuses) face each other on the top of a flowered hill to fight for a palm branch; both carry a quiver and are arranged symmetrically. Interesting emblematic well composed representation. Mirror polishing of the intaglio. Attracting variety of striped agate exploited with art for the scene. Very thin large size bezel. Very good condition. Italy or Cisalpine workshop.
