The Campbell Soup Company commissions Andy Warhol for the paintings of the containers that the artist creates with the colors, red, white, gold, black and silver for the can. Andy Warhol's Campbell's are perhaps the best known images of modern American art. Initially created as a series of thirty-two canvases in 1962, the soup cans soon gained international success. Warhol further explores the theme of repetition and mass production by creating two portfolios of Campbell's serigraphs: 1968 "Campbell Soup Cans I" and 1969 "Campbell Soup Cans II".
