An hellenistic lapis-lazuli female head.
3rd century B.C.
H: 19 mm

This miniaturistic hardstone head is characterized by a plain oval-shaped face, and a treatment of anatomic details; eyes, eyebrows, nose and mouth very refined. The hair are composed of wavy locks, separated by a central line, in two parts and joined on the back of the neck. Presence of a back pillar. The hair style, the anatomy of the face and the presence of a back pillar reminds the egyptian art during the ptolemaic period. Very rare specimen. Probably an a mulet (missing bust ?). Attractive color of the stone.
