Description

A roman light bue chalcedony bust of young boy.
2nd - 3rd century A.D.
Dim: 44 x 38 x 34 mm

The young figure is characterized by a plain rounded-face, with large almond-shaped eyes, little nose and full lips. The hair are framing the fronthead with short locks. Ears visible. The bust is decorated with ivy leaves and flower buds. Provenance: Spain, Barcelona, private collection. Parallel: A similar bust at the Hermitage Museum, inv.434 and one in the Dumbarton Oaks, Washington, inv.526. Published in D., DEL BUFALO, Precious Protraits, Small Precious Stone Sculptures if Imperial Rome, n.450, p.147.
