Description

A LONGQUAN CÉLADON-GLAZED MOULDED BOWL
China, Ming dynasty, 15th century

10,5 x 17 cm

Decorated with moulded floral and geometric designs, the centre of the interior with a good omen character, all raised on a tall narrow foot rim, covered with an olive-green glaze.

Provenance: the collection of a Dutch noblewoman lived in Indonesia, acquired before 1975.

This kind of bowl was made in various sizes. The Topkapi Saray Museum in Istanbul has numerous similar examples (see R. Krahl - J. Ayers, Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum, 3 voll., London 1986, I, pp. 363-368); another similar bowl is in the Baur Foundation, Geneve (M. Crick, Chinese Trade Ceramics for South-East Asia from the 1st to the 17th Century. Collection of Ambassador and Mrs Charles Müller, Milan 2010, n. 39).
