A Russian Icon of Saint Pantaleon of Nicomedia - 19th Century

egg tempera on wood, depicting "Saint Pantaleon of Nicomedia" (Panteleimon), the patron saint of physicians, surrounded with 14 scenes from his life. Born in the Roman province of Bithynia, in what is modern Turkey, St Pantaleon (c275-303) was martyred during the persecution of Christians ordered by the Emperor Diocletian. Dimensions 88 x 69.5 x 3.5 cm. Item condition grading: **** good (previous restorations).
