Wilhelm Lorenz

Studies of Tigers, XX Century
Disegno a matita su carta color avorio, 34 x 46 cm
Studies of Tigers is a beautiful double-sided charcoal original drawing on ivory-colored paper, realized in the middle of the XX century by the German artist Wilhelm Lorenz, also called Willi Lorenz. Signed in charcoal on the lower right margin.
This is a preparatory study on both sides of the sheet: on the recto, there are tigers in different poses and attitudes; on the verso, there are the detailed profile of a tiger and four rapid sketches felines with signature and date.

Wilhelm (Willi) Lorenz (Germany, 1901–1981)
Wilhelm Lorenz, also known as Willi Lorenz, was a German painter specialized in paintings of animals typically hunted as a game. His highly detailed oil paintings evoke the texture and movement of animals like boars, foxes, buffalos, and lions, depicted in their natural habitats and attitudes. His artworks resemble the works by Max Josef Hänger Lorenz. Willi Lorenz attended the Düsseldorf Academy of Art before moving to Cologne to start his artistic career.
This modern artwork is in very good conditions, except for a small damage on the lower right corner of the sheet and some other minor defects (little folds or abrasions of the paper on the edges).
