Description

Amandine Doré

C’est Penis, Half XX Century
China su carta, 27.2 x 26 cm
C’est penis is a fun watermarked china ink original drawing on Arches paper realized by the French painter, illustrator, and writer Amandine Doré in the second half of the 20th century. Very likely, this is an artist’s proof for an illustration. The signature is on the lower center. At the bottom, there are some indications in pencil for the print. “360” is written in pencil on the left. “40” appears in the center between two arrows, while the title and the circulation “C’est Penis 07/50” appear on the right.

The artwork represents a sexual encounter between a sailor and a Polynesian young woman.

Amandine Doré (Paris, 1912-2011) is one of the pseudonyms of Odette Amandine Bonne, also known as “Aurèa” or “Madame”, according to the type of subject matter of her artworks.

Amandine was a French painter, illustrator, and writer. Her production varied from erotic to travel illustrations. With her fascinating drawings, she illustrated the classics of erotic literature, books of poetry, magazines, and most of her husband’s books (the Belgian author T’Serstevens, with whom she often travelled).
The state of preservation is very good; the watermarked paper is torn on the lower margin and presents irregular borders.
