CANNIBAL FORK

Cannibal forks (ICULANIBOKOLA) were used by attendants during ritual feasts to feed individuals considered too sacred and important to touch food directly with their hands. Culturally, there was a real ban on Fiji islands that prevented tribal chiefs and shamans from touching food with their hands. These important forks were considered real relics and were kept in BUREKALOU, the house of spirits. Ex James Hooper collection. Ex Fuller collection. XVIII century. Fiji islands. Height: 30 cm
