Description

TOKONAME IN YELLOW CLAY BY AKIJI KATAOKA / KINKA
Japan, around 1927

Dei-mono (unglazed), toukadei ("peach blossom" yellow clay, very rare), da-en-bachi (oval), do-himo (with band).

41 x 32.5 x 6 cm

The author of this tokoname is Akiji Kataoka or Akitsugu Kataoka, who in the Taishō period opened a kiln initially named as Kataoka. Since 1927 he has signed his production of bonsai pots as "Kinka" or "Shousen".
He is the progenitor of the Kataoka family of potters, famous for the Yamaaki kiln opened in 1961. This vase is therefore an example of the production prior to this last date.
