Augusto Beuf (Palermo 1887 - Verona 1969)

He studied and graduated in cello at the Palermo High School musical. While no precise technical preparation starts singing with operetta company "Lombardo", participating in a tour in Egypt. He returned to Italy in 1908, he debuted the title role in Rigoletto at the Teatro Comunale di Modica in the province of Ragusa, and then to Palermo in Thaïs by Massenet (a servant) alongside Carmen Melis and Charles Galeffi. He will return to the Teatro Massimo in Palermo in March of 1920 as Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana with Francesco Merli as Turiddu and finally in March of 1931 as Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde with Renato Zanelli as Tristan. We can date its professional "official debut" in 1913, when at the Teatro Biondo in Palermo sings the role of Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana. In October 1917 singing at the Teatro Valle in Rome in Cavalleria Rusticana (Alfio) and Pagliacci (Tonio); in 1918 at the Teatro Carcano in Milan (Un ballo in maschera). In 1920 he completed his training in Rome with Alfredo Martini master. He sings at Costanzi in Boris Godunov, Carmen (Escamillo), and 2 May 1921 in the premiere of The Little Marat (Captain) alongside Hipolito Lazaro and Gilda Dalla Rizza. That summer, will amphitheater Arena di Verona which Priest of Dagon in Samson et Dalila by Saint-Saëns, and Captain in Il Piccolo Marat still alongside Hipolito Lazaro. Here, in 1929, also he will sing the role of Valentine in Faust by Gounod alongside Ezio Pinza and Gina Cigna. In 1921 we find him in Genoa as Giorgio Germont in La traviata. in 1923 he returned to Rome, this time for the season of the Teatro Adriano, with William Tell, Othello (Iago), Pagliacci (Tonio), Tosca (Scarpia), Andrea Chénier (Gérard), Barber of Seville (Figaro), Lohengrin (Telramondo ). From 1934 begins to sing roles in shades of "low", we find him in this new role at La Scala in Milan as Hans Sachs in The Mastersingers of Nuremberg Wagner, a role that in 1936, will also sing for EIAR (today RAI) Turin and the Teatro Verdi in Trieste (February / March) with Ettore Parmeggiani and Mariano Stabile.
