Ercole De Maria was one out of the closest collaborators and copyists of Guido Reni, attending Giovan Francesco Gessi’s workshop.
Andrea Emiliani correctly highlights the similarity between this head and some well-known reniani prototypes as the St. Jerome of the National Gallery in London or Moses at the Borghese Gallery in Rome, both works dated back between the twenties and thirties of the seventeenth century.
