A GILT BRONZE SCULPTURE OF A FOUR-ARMED AVALOKITESVARA


Mongolia, Zanabazar School, 18th century


The bodhisattva seated on a double lotus flower base, the legs crossed in padmasana position, the two arms at the front bent at the elbow with the hands joined in the anjali mudra, those at the back also bent, in the right hand a rosary, wearing a wide dress with the edges finely chiseled with floral corollas, the exuberant jewels including a breastplate, earrings and a five-pinnacle tiara, the long hair divided into three locks and painted in blue.
